Sapient was incorporated in June 2009, and is headquartered at Pune with transactional points at Mumbai, Delhi, Chandigarh and Bangalore. At such a time three people chose to tread a different path - A new entity was born!! The SWAB core team includes Janak Shah, Amit Bivalkar and Rahul Khandekar, who have a combined experience of over fifty years in the areas of Investment Advisory, Private Banking and Consulting, with in-depth knowledge gained from the previous association of the individual directors with some of the best-in-class national and global asset management / investment management firms.
Janak has been in the financial services industry for over the past 22 years. Prior to forming SWAB, Janak worked in one of Pune's oldest brokerage firm which was also the largest distributor of mutual fund products. His responsibilities included providing services to retail and corporate investors for deployment of short term / long term surplus funds.
Prior to that, Janak was the Business Development Officer, Hire Purchase Division at Bajaj Auto Finance Ltd., Pune. His responsibilities included devising consumer driven hire purchase schemes and overlooking their implementation, developing the hire purchase business through the dealer network of the company, and negotiating with commercial buyers for bulk orders.
Janak is a member of The Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI). He has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Pune (1988) and a Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com) from Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce, Pune (1986).
Amit has been working in the financial services industry for over the past 14 years. Prior to forming SWAB, Amit was the Regional Head – Sales, West and East India with AIG Investments. During this period, Amit and his team successfully launched 5 funds since the inception of the company, completed 2000 broker empanelments in Western India and ensured that the region contributed 45% of assets mobilized across all product categories. Prior to this, Amit was the Area Sales Head, Fidelity International, Mumbai where his responsibilities included overall management of the retail and banking channels in Mumbai. During this period, Amit and his team successfully completed two new fund offers and were recognized with the Best Sales Team Award in 2006.
Prior to this, Amit was Assistant Vice President, Sales and Distribution, DSP Merrill Lynch Fund Managers Ltd., where he was responsible for rest of Maharashta, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Goa before moving to the Bangalore office of DSP Merrill Lynch Fund Managers Ltd. During this period, Amit increased the fund’s market share in the region from 0.01% to 6.5% with a 25% contribution to equity assets mobilized in the period. Amit was recognized as ‘Outperformer of the Year” in 2003 and was responsible for the fastest growing branch of DSP Merrill Lynch Fund Managers Ltd., for two consecutive years (Pune - 2003 and 2004). Prior to this, Amit was Head, Investments with Wealth Managers India Private Limited (formerly Sajag Securities).
Amit is a member of The Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI). He has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Pune University, Pune (1999) and a Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com) also from Pune University, Pune (1997).
Rahul has been working in the financial services industry for over 18 years. Prior to setting up SWAB, Rahul was the Regional Sales Manager, Templeton Investments for Rest of Maharashtra and Goa. During this period, Rahul was responsible for the day to day mobilizations across all product categories, critical administrative issues, developing and consolidating business for Templeton Mutual Fund across Rest of Maharashtra and Goa. Prior to that, Rahul was the Area Manager – Sales with Tata Mutual Fund for Rest of Maharashtra and Goa. Rahul supervised a team of 20 individuals across the region focusing on increasing the reach of the fundhouse across all client and product categories.
Prior to that, Rahul was the Branch Manager, SBI Mutual Fund, Pune and Rest of Maharashtra. He and his team were instrumental in setting up investor service centers in Pune, Nashik, and Nagpur, training intermediaries on product features and attributes, and coordinating sales events and other promotional activities for the intermediaries in the region. Prior to that, Rahul was the Branch Manager, ING Mutual Fund and was instrumental in setting up the branch office in Pune and introducing the ING brand to various distributors and clients in the Pune region.
Rahul is a member of The Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI). He has a Masters in Management Science (MMS) from Pune University, Pune (1997) and a Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com) also from Pune University, Pune (1994).
Understanding the financial needs and risk appetite of a client (both individual and institutions) is critical in identifying the right mix of products suitable to the client – a step that is often overlooked or completed as a mere formality. After thoroughly understanding the requirements and risk tolerance levels of a client, we aim to provide unbiased guidance about various investment vehicles in the debt and equity sphere like mutual funds, fixed deposits, insurance products, direct equity transactions in the secondary markets, RBI bonds, postal savings and others, as the case may be.
Successful relationships are based on trust, unbiased and accurate financial guidance, good investment performance and constant client communications. Maintaining regular, periodic client interaction allows us to understand the financial requirements and objectives of each client and develop a customized offering of products and services to meet those requirements and objectives. Periodic interaction with clients also allows us to identify and understand any changes in the client's financial needs, objectives and constraints in a timely manner and make appropriate changes in the investment products / services, as need be.
